scientific method
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Purpose | problem that the lab activity is designed to solve, usually in the form of a question. |
| Research | gather information, find out as much about the problem as possible. |
| Hypothesis | possible explanation for the problem, an educated guess. If...Then...Because statements. |
| Experiment | step by step activity to prove or disprove the hypothesis. |
| Record/Analyze Data | written information and measurements taken during the experiment. |
| Drawing Conclusions | result of the experiment using evidence to support or disprove your hypothesis. |
| Repeat | conduct the experiment again to make sure all data is correct. |
| Observations | what a person performing the experiment tastes, hears, smells, sees or measures. |
| Qualitative Observstions | genreal descriptions using the five senses. |
| Quantitative Observations | specific definitions using numbers |
| Variable | the factor being tested in the experiment |
| Control Setup | set up that is the exactly the same as the experimental set up except without the variable being tested. |
