scientific method

TermDefinition
Purpose problem that the lab activity is designed to solve, usually in the form of a question.
Research gather information, find out as much about the problem as possible.
Hypothesis possible explanation for the problem, an educated guess. If...Then...Because statements.
Experiment step by step activity to prove or disprove the hypothesis.
Record/Analyze Data written information and measurements taken during the experiment.
Drawing Conclusions result of the experiment using evidence to support or disprove your hypothesis.
Repeat conduct the experiment again to make sure all data is correct.
Observations what a person performing the experiment tastes, hears, smells, sees or measures.
Qualitative Observstions genreal descriptions using the five senses.
Quantitative Observations specific definitions using numbers
Variable the factor being tested in the experiment
Control Setup set up that is the exactly the same as the experimental set up except without the variable being tested.
