continental shelf the underwater area of continent (land covered by the sea)
plateau a high landform with a flat top
continental slope the area when the edge of a continent falls steeply to the ocean floor
inner core a sphere of solid material at the center of the earth
crust rock that makes up the moons and earth's outermost layers
mantle the layer of rock below earth's crust
outer core the liquid layer below earth's mantle
drainage basin a region of land with water that runs into a river
seismic wave a vibration caused by an earthquake
volcano a mountain that builds up around an opening in earth's crust
earthquake a sudden shaking of the rock that make up Earth's crust
seismograph an instrument that detects and records earthquakes; shows seismic waves or jagged lines along a graph
mountain a tall landform that rises to a peak
fold a bend in layers of rock
fault a crack in earth's crust along which movement has taken place
