Experiments
The process of scientific experiments
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Why do scientists perform experiments? | To find answers to questions. |
| What do scientists create first, before they perform an experiment? | A hypothesis or guess what the experiment will reveal |
| How do scientists document what they do? | They create Lab Documents showing what they did, what they expected to happen, and what actually resulted from the test. |
| How do Lab Documents help other scientists? | New scientists can see what worked - or didn't work, in the tests performed by others. |
| Why are Materials used in the tests important to other scientists? | They tell later scientists what physical elements were used in the course of your tests. |
| Why are Procedures important when documenting your Laboratory experiments? | They document what the scientist did first, second, third and so on. The sequence of steps is critical in many experiments. |
| How do scientists pass along the knowledge from one test to another? | Documenting results is critical in science; this is how one scientist learns from the mistakes or efforts of another |
| When an experiment is finished, what do scientists do last? | They document their conclusions or what they believe to be the results of the tests. These conclusions can be correct or incorrect, depending on how the scientist views the results. |
