| El Nino | Warmer than sea-surface temperatures in the tropical Pacific Ocean that have an effect on global weather. |
| La Nina | cooler-than-normal sea surface temperatures in the central and eastern Pacific Ocean, near the equator off the west coast of South America. |
| drought | A prolonged shortage of rainfall. |
| cold front | When a COLD AIR MASS pushes into a warm air mass. |
| warm front | When a WARM AIR MASS pushes into a cold air mass. |
| occluded front | A front that develops when two masses of cold air meet. |
| boundary | A line that shows where an area ends and another area begins. |
| air mass | A large body of air that has the same temperature and moisture level throughout. |
| heat | The transfer of thermal energy. (Example: How hot something is) |
| jet streams | High speed winds in the upper atmosphere that flow from WEST to EAST. |
