Ecology the study of the interactions of organisms with one another and with their environment
Biotic these are all the living organisms on earth.
Abiotic these are all the nonliving factors of the environment
Organism any living thing with one or more cells.
Habitat the area where an organism lives its life including the living and nonliving factors.
Population all the individuals of the same species that live together in one place at the same time.
Community all the populations of species that live in the same habitat and interact with each other.
Ecosystem populations and abiotic factors with which they interact in the setting of a community.
Biosphere the part of the earth where life exists.
Producer this is an organism that supplies matter and energy, also known as an autotroph.
Consumer this is an organism that relies on other organisms for its food and energy supply; also called a heterotroph.
Decomposer this is an organism that breaks down and gains nutrients from dead organisms.
Herbivore an organism that eats only plants.
Cornivore an organism that only eats animals.
Omnivore an organism that eats both plants and animals.
Food Chain the pathway of energy transfer through various stages as a result of feeding patterns of a series of organisms.
Food Web a diagram that shows the feeding relationships between organisms in an ecosystem.
Energy Pyrimad a triangular diagram that shows an ecosystem’s loss of energy, which results as energy passes through the ecosystem’s food chain.
