Key Terms

Astronomy The study of the moon, stars, and other objects in space`
Axis The imaginary line that passed through Earth's center and the North and South poles
Rotation The spinning of earth on its axis
Revolution The movement of one object around the other
Orbit A round path
Calendar A system of organizing time
Solstice When the sun is farthest north or south of the equator
Equinox 2 times a year when the noon sun is directly overhead at the equator
force push or pull
gravity Force; attraction between 2 objects in space
law of universal gravitation every object attracts every other object
mass the amount of matter in an object
weight the force of gravity in an object
inertia the tendancy of an object to resist a change in motion
Newton's first law of motion an object at rest will stay in rest and an object in motion will stay in motion unless acted on by a force
