| Rock | A solid mixture of crystallized mineral(s) |
| Rock cycle | The process by which one type of rock changes to another. |
| Igneous | Rock created by a volcano. Intrusive and extrusive are types of igneous rock. |
| Sedimentary | When sediments are cemented together. It is either clastic or chemical. |
| Metamorphic | Rock that is put under heat and pressure. Foliated and nonfoliated are types of metamorphic rock. |
| Compositon | Types of minerals that make up a rock type. |
| Texture | Sizes, shapes or positions of that grains make up rock |
| Intrusive | Igneous rock that is formed underground - usually with bigger crystals |
| Extrusive | Igneous rock that is formed above ground or close to the surface - generally with smaller crystals |
| Strata | Layers found in rocks |
| Stratification | The process by which sedimentary rocks form layers |
| Foliated | Metamorphic rocks that have layers |
| Nonfoliated | Metamorphic rocks that do not have layers |
| Weathering | The process by which sediment particles are created from wind, ice, water, or chemicals |
| Erosion | The process by which sediment particles are transported |
