diffusion the movement of substances from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration
osmosis the diffusion of water molecules across a semipermeable membrane
passive transport the movement of substances through a cell membrane without using the cell's energy
active transport the movement of substances through a cell membrane using energy
endocytosis the process when a cell surrounds a large particle and encloses it in a vesicle
facilitated diffusion when molecules pass through a cell membrane using special proteins called transport protein
exocytosis the process when a cell uses a vesicle to move a particle from within the cell to outside the cell
photosynthesis the process by which plants capture light energy from the sun and convert it into sugar
cellular respiration when cells use oxygen to break down food
cell cycle the regular sequence of growth and division that cells undergo
homeostasis the process by which an organism's internal environment is kept stable in spite of changes in the external environment
multicellular consisting of many cells
unicellular only consisting of one cell
semipermeable a membrane that only allows certain substances to enter or leave
cell the basic unit of structure and function of living things
tissue a group of similar cells that work together to perform a specific function
