Vocabulary used in Electric Counterpoint
| Term | Definition |

| Note Addition | When the notes of a melody are brought in gradually. |
| Rhythmic Displacement | When a melody or rhythm is played be each instrument in turn but each time shifted to start on a new beat. |
| Canon | When each instrument enters in turn with the same melody |
| Octave Displacement | When notes in a melody are shifted up or down an octave (Bass Guitars) |
| Panning | When the sound is shared between the two speakers (left and right) |
| Ostinato | A repeated cell, rhythm or melody (This describes every part in Electric Counterpoint). |
| Cross Rhythms | The effect created when two rhythms are played at the same time grouped to feel like they are in a different time signature (metre) |
| Syncopation | When the rhythms emphasise in-between the beats (the off beats). |
