Hypothesis an educated guess
Variable any factor that can be controlled, changed or measured in an experiment
Independent Variable the one condition you can change in an experiment
Dependent Variable the variable that you measure or observe, the dependent variable depends on the independent variable
Controlled Variable (constant variable) a variable that doesn't change during an experiment
Ecology the study of the interactions of living organisms with one another
Abiotic and Abiotic Factors not living thing
Biotic and Biotic Factors living thing
Species a group of living organisms consisting of similar individuals capable of exchanging genes or interbreeding.
Biodiversity the variety of all life forms on earth - the different plants, animals and micro-organisms and the ecosystems of which they are a part.
Ecosystem is a community of living organisms in conjunction with the nonliving components of their environment, interacting as a system.
Biome A large community of plants and animals that occupies a distinct region.

Consumer are those organisms that eat other things (they eat plants and other animals)

Herbivore an animal that feeds on plants
Omnivore an animal or person that eats food of both plant and animal origin
Carnivore an animal that feeds on flesh
Food Chain is a diagram that shows how food energy moves from one organism to another in a given environment
Food Web a system of interlocking and interdependent food chains
