| sediment | small pieces of rock broken down by weathering and deposited on the land or at the bottom of a body of water. |
| weathering | the breakdown of solid materials into very small particles by water, air, and other natural events. |
| erosion | the gradual wearing down of something from the effects of wind, water, or ice. |
| deposition | the build up of land by the settlement of sediment and soil in a new location. |
| natural resources | any of the useful minerals and other materials that people take from the Earth. |
| nonrenewable resources | a resource that once exhausted can not be replaced in a short amount of time (oil, coal and natural gas). |
| recycle | processing waste items so the materials they are made of can be used to make new items. |
| reuse | using an item over again |
| reduce | using less of a product or a resource |
| alternative energy resources | renewable energy generated by natural processes. |
