| Hyponatremia | A condition in which the sodium level is below normal (less than 135mEq/L) |
| Hypernatremia | The serum level of sodium is elevated to above 145 mEq/L |
| Hyperkalemia | A serum plasma level of potassium above 5.5 mEq/L |
| Acidosis | Blood ph below normal (less than 7.35) |
| Alkalosis | Blood ph above normal (greater than 7.45) |
| Metabolic Acidosis | A clinical disturbance charcterized by a low ph and a high plasma HC03 |
| Metabolic Alkalosis | A clinical disturbance characterized by a high ph and hlasma HC03 level |
| Osmosis | The movement of water from a lower comcentration to a higher concentration across a semipermeable membrane |
| Diffusion | The passage between the molecules of another to form a mixture of the two substances |
| Phlebitis | Inflammation of a vein associated with chemical irritation, or bacterial infection |
| Active Transport | The passage of a substance across a cell membrance by an energy consuming process that permits diffusion to take place |
| Fluid Volume Deficit | 'Dehydration' it may be cause by an actual decrease in body water, excessive fluid loss or inadequate fluid intake |
