Nature of science

Obervation Any information received directly from hearing, touching, tasting, smelling, or seeing.
Inference A conclusion based on the observations and reasoning.
Independent variable The variable that is changed before the experiment
Dependent variable The variable that is measured during or after the experiment
Hypothesis A possible explanation for a set of observations or answer to a specific question.
What is a control? the group in an experiment that serves as the standard of comparison.
What scientific instrument is used to measure mass? Triple-beam balance
How much space an object takes up. Volume
How much matter is in an object. Mass
How much space is between two points. Distance
What is the base unit for Volume? Liter(L)
What is the base unit for mass? Kilogram(kg)
What is the basic unit for distance? Meter
What is the base SI unit of measure for temperature? Kelvin/Celsius
