Ch. 7 Light & Sound

TermDefinition
Concave lens A lens that is thin in the middle and thick at the edges.
Concave mirror A mirror that curves in at the middle.
Convex lens A lens that is thick in the middle and thin at the edges.
Convex mirror A mirror that curves outward at the middle
Image A copy or likeness.
Lens A curved piece of clear material that refracts light waves.
Photons Small bundles of energy that make up light.
Plane mirror A flat, smooth mirror.
Prism A clear piece of glass or plastic that is shaped like a triangle and can be used to separate white light.
Reflection The bouncing back of a light wave
Refraction the bending of a light wave as it moves from one material to another.
Sound wave A wave produced by vibrations.
Vibrate To move rapidly back and forth.
Visible spectrum The band of colors that make up white light.
Light A form of energy that sometimes can be seen.
