Inquiry skills, safety, and the Scientific method
| Term | Definition |

| Independent variable | Factor that you change to see it's effect |
| Dependent variable | The factor being measured |
| Draw conclusion | States whether or not the data supports your hypothesis |
| Observing | Using your five senses to explore the physical properties and behaviors of things in the world |
| Classifying | Sorting and grouping things by one or more physical properties or behaviors |
| Inferring | Taking your observations and reflecting on them using information you have learned from your previous experiences |
| Predicting | Making an educated guess to explain why, how, or when something happens |
| Making a hypothesis | A scientific explanation that you think is true and can be tested |
| Communicating | Telling what you know by writing, speaking, drawing, graphing, or demonstrating |
| Measuring | Using a calibrated science tool to quantify a physical property and find out how much of it you have |
| Interpreting data | The ability to look at data and understand the trends, patterns, and relationships shown in graphs, charts, and notes |
| Experimenting | Testing a hypothesis using the scientific method |
