Inquiry skills, safety, and the Scientific method

Independent variable Factor that you change to see it's effect
Dependent variable The factor being measured
Draw conclusion States whether or not the data supports your hypothesis
Observing Using your five senses to explore the physical properties and behaviors of things in the world
Classifying Sorting and grouping things by one or more physical properties or behaviors
Inferring Taking your observations and reflecting on them using information you have learned from your previous experiences
Predicting Making an educated guess to explain why, how, or when something happens
Making a hypothesis A scientific explanation that you think is true and can be tested
Communicating Telling what you know by writing, speaking, drawing, graphing, or demonstrating
Measuring Using a calibrated science tool to quantify a physical property and find out how much of it you have
Interpreting data The ability to look at data and understand the trends, patterns, and relationships shown in graphs, charts, and notes
Experimenting Testing a hypothesis using the scientific method
