What does geology mean? means "study of the Earth"
What does Physical geology mean? means the study of materials that make up the Earth
What does Historical geology mean? means to establish a timeline of the vast number of physical and biological changes that have occurred in the past.

What are constructive forces? are like mountain buildings and volcanism build up the surface by raising the land and depositing new material in the form of lava
What did the theory of plate tectonics provide geologist with? A model to explain how earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur and how continents move

What does a contour interval tell you? it tells you the difference in elevation. Lines that are closer together indicate a steeper slope, while lines apart indicate a gentler slope.
What two energy sources power Earth's system? 1. Sun 2. Earth's interior
What can renewable resources do? Renewable resources can be replenished over relating short time spans.
What does nonrenewable resources do? Nonrenewable resources include iron, aluminum, and copper plus our most important fuels oil, natural gas, and coal.
What is a scientific theory? is a well tested and widely accepted by the scientific community and best explains certain observable facts.
What is a scientific law? is a statement that summarizes a pattern found in nature.
