Cranial Nerves

Cranial Nerve I Olfactory Nerve: Sensory nerve. Perception of smell from the nasal cavity.
Cranial Nerve II Optic Nerve: Sensory nerve. Vision of retina.
Cranial Nerve III Oculomotor Nerve: Motor nerve. Motor function to superior rectus and inferior rectus, medial rectus, inferior oblique, and levator palpebrae superioris mucles, raises superior eyelid.
Cranial Nerve IV Trochlear Nerve: Motor nerve. Super oblique muscle that assists in turning of the eye inferio laterally.
Cranial Nerve V Trigeminal: 3 branches.*Opthalmic;Sensory-Sensation from cornea, scalp, eyelids, nose, mucose of nasal cavity.*Maxillary;Sensory-Skin over maxilla, upper lip, maxillary teeth, mucosa of nose, sinuses, palate.*Mandibular;Motor-muscles of mastication.
Cranial Nerve VI Abducent Nerve: Motor nerve. Lateral rectus muscle to turn eye laterally.
Cranial Nerve VII Facial:Sensory/Motor nerve. S= Muscles of face. Taste=Anterior 2/3 of tongue, sensory soft palate.M=Submandibular, sublingual, lacrimal glands.
Cranial Nerve VIII Vestibulocochlear: Sensory nerve. Auditory and equilibrium.
Cranial Nerve IX Glossopharyngeal: Sensory/Motor nerve. S=Tonsil, pharynx, middle ear. M=Stylopharyngeus, upper pharyngeal muscles, parotid gland. Taste=Posterior 1/3 of tongue.
Cranial Nerve X Vagus: Sensory/Motor nerve. S=Heart, lungs, trachea, bronchi, larynx, pharynx, GI tract, external ear. M=Heart, lungs, palate, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, GI tract.
Cranial Nerve XI Accessory:Motor nerve. Sternocleidomastoid, trapezius muscles.
Cranial Nerve XII Hypoglossal; Motor/Spinal Nerve Fibers. Tongue muscles.
