Rock Cycle Vocabulary

| Rock | A mixture of minerals, volcanic glass, organic matter, or other materials. |
| Rock Cycle | The processes that create and change rocks. |
| Igneous Rock | Formed when magma cools and hardens. |
| Lava | Magma that reaches the Earth's surface and flows from volcanoes. |
| Intrusive | Igneous Rock that form from magma below the Earth's surface. |
| Extrusive | Igneous Rock that form as lava cools on the surface of the Earth. |
| Metamorphic Rock | Rocks that have changed because of changes in temperature and pressure or the presence of hot, watery fluids. |
| Sediment | Loose materials such as rock fragments, mineral grains, and bits of shell that have been moved by wind, water, ice, or gravity. |
| Compactions | Pressure from upper layers of small particles push down on lower layers causing them to stick together |
| Cementation | Occurs when water soaks through soil and rock causing large sediments to stick together |
