Reading Vocabulary and Definitions

| author | A person who writes a story or other text |
| blend | A group of letters that work together while keeping their own sound |
| capitalization | Using capital letters |
| character | A person, animal, or other creature in a story |
| digraph | A group of letters that work together to make one sound |
| fiction | A story that is made up by the author and is not true. |
| fluency | To read with speed and accuracy (To read like you talk) |
| illustrator | A person who draws or takes pictures for a story |
| main idea | What the story is all about |
| non-fiction | A story that is true, based on real people, places, things, or events |
| noun | A person, place, thing, or idea |
| punctuation | Marks used to separate sentences and different parts within a sentence |
| setting | Where and when the story takes place |
| verb | An action word |
