Cumulative Vocab Test Words

cell membrane The protective layer that covers the cell’s surface, acts as a barrier, and controls which materials go into and out of the cell.
nucleus A membrane enclosed organelle found in eukaryotic cells that contains most of the cell’s genetic material and controls the activities of the cell.
organelle Structures within a cell that perform specific functions.
specialization Each cell in a multicellular organism having a specific function.
tissue A structure that is made up of a group of cells that work together to perform a specific job.
organ A structure that is made up of two or more tissues working together to perform a specific function.
differentiation The process of a cell becoming specialized to perform a specific job.
osmosis The diffusion of water across a cell membrane from an area of high concentration to low concentration.
heredity The passing of genetic material from a parent organism to its offspring.
gene Sections of genetic material that contain instructions for an inherited trait.
