Cumulative Vocab Test Words

cell The smallest unit that can perform all life processes and contains all of the materials necessary for life.
stimulus Anything in the environment that causes a response or change in an organism.
homeostasis The process of an organism maintaining a constant and stable internal state in a changing environment.
metabolism The total of all chemical activities that an organism performs.
proteins One of the 5 chemical building blocks of cells that are made up of amino acid subunits and are used to build cells and cellular structures.
photosynthesis The process by which plants make their own food from carbon dioxide, water, and light energy.
chlorophyll The green pigment in plants that absorbs light energy.
glucose The carbohydrate produced from carbon dioxide and water during photosynthesis.
cellular respiration The process by which cells use oxygen to release energy from food.
stoma An opening in a leaf’s epidermis (outer layer) through which gas exchange occurs.
