adaptation something that helps a living thing survive
producer any of the plants and algae that produce oxygen; food that animals need
consumer any animal that eats plants or other plant-eating animals
prey a living thing that is hunted for food
predator a living thing that hunts other living things for food
carnivore an animal that eats only meats
omnivore an animal that eats both plants and animals
abiotic the non-living parts of an ecosystem (soil, dead logs, sun, air, etc.)
herbivore an animal that eats only plants
chlorophyll a green chemical in plants that uses the sun's energy for making food
