renewable resources resources that can be replaced or renewed during a short period of time if used wisely
nonrenewable resources resources that are limited in supply and cannot be replaced once they are used
pesticide a substance intended for preventing and killing pests such as insects or rats
ecosystem the specific place where living and nonliving things interact
pollutant any waste matter that contaminates the air, water or soil
recycle taking something old and making it into something new
conservation the act of using a resource wisely
habitat the place where an organism lives
EPA Environmental Protection Agency which makes and enforces laws to help protect the environment
DDT a dangerous pesticide no longer used in the United States
Fossil Fuel a nonrenewable resource formed from the remains of organisms that lived long ago
agriculture farming
landfill a place for solid waste disposal
endangered species animals with very small numbers that might no longer exist in the near future
