| continental climates | varied climates on the interior |
| Windward | side of a mountain where wind hits |
| leeward | side of a mountain where wind does not hit |
| monsoons | winds that blow over a long area and change direction |
| Rain Forests | forest where rain constantly falls |
| savanna | tropical grassland |
| desert | places with very little precippitation |
| steppe | semiarid area by a desert |
| Humid subtropical | wet, warm climate |
| subarctic | cold climate with long winters |
| tundra | cold climate |
| permafrost | permanently frozen soil |
