Cell Structure

TermDefinition
Cell membrane An outer covering for all cells
cytoplasm the inside gelatinlike material
cell wall tough, rigid outer coverings that protect the cell.
organelle Are within the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells
nucleus directs all cell activity and is separated from the cytoplasm.
chloroplast contain a green pigment (chlorophyll)
mitochondria are organelles where energy is released from broken down foods.
ribosome Used by cells to make their own proteins.
endoplasmic reticulum extends from the nucleus to the cell membrane.
golgi body Stacked, flattened membranes
tissue is a group of similar cells that work together to do one job.
organ is a structure made up of two or more different types of tissues that work together.
