The dynamic Earth

QuestionAnswer
Crust thinnest layer of the earth
Mantle Thickest, most heaviest layer of earth
Outer core The only liquid state layer of the earth
Inner core The hottest layer of the earth
Magma mostly molten rock that is stored inside of the earths volcano
Molten the past tense of melt
Compression is when it pushes against another tectonic plate
Shearing when it slides past another tectonic plate
Tension is when it tears itself apart making valleys
Tectonic plate are what make the surface of the Earth stay together
Tremor when the ground shakes, possibly changing the landscape
Fault line The boundary or where the tectonic plates meet
Landslide when the ground shakes a little and then unbalanced or weak sides of a mountain slides down causing damage
liquefaction the process of liquefying an object
seismic wave waves of energy that generates from earthquakes that can demolish homes, schools and other structures
P wave wave that can shock through solids and liquids
S wave wave of energy that can shock through only solids
Surface wave The slowest type of seismic wave that runs along the surface of the earth also known as ' the crust'
Epicentre The point on the surface above the hypocenter of an earthquake
Hypocentre The heart of the earthquake
Seismograph A measuring instrument for earthquake's shock
Tsunami A killer wave formed from an earthquake underwater
Mercalli scale a scale that measures the power of the earthquake
Richter scale a scale that measures the magnitude of an earthquake
Moment magnitude scale A scale that measures the magnitude of an earthquake as wel as the Richter scale
