Another cool way to learn the vocab words of chapter 3

QuestionAnswer
Cuticle A waxy, protective layer secreted by cells onto the surface of the plant.
Cellulose A chemical compound that plants can make out of sugar.
Vascular plants Have tubelike structures that carry water, nutrients, and other substances throughout the plant.
nonvascular plants They do not have these tubelike structures and use other ways to move water and substances.
rhizoids They anchor themselves where they grow
pioneer species Organisms that are the first to grow in new or disturbed areas.
guard cells each stoma is surrounded by two __________ that open and close it.
stomata A small opening on the epidermis of the plant
Xylem tissue that is made up of hollow, tubular cells that are stacked one on top of the other to form a structure called a vessel
phloem a plant tissue also made up of tubular cells that are stacked to form strucutres called tubes
cambium a tissue that produces most of the new xylem and phloem cells
Gymnosperms Vascular plants that produce seeds that are not protected by fruit.
Angiosperm A vascular Plant that flowers and produces fruits with one or more seeds.
Monocots They have one cotyledon inside there seeds
dictos They have two cotyledon inside there seeds
