| Machine | Something that replaces human effort and makes work easier |
| Simple Machine | A tool that makes work easier; has few or no moving parts |
| Energy | The ability to do work |
| Work | The ability to move something |
| Wheel And Axle | A simple machine consisting of a grooved wheel turned by a cord or chain with a firmly attached axle together with supports |
| Lever | A simple machine consisting of a solid bar that rotates around a pivot point; used to lift objects |
| Pulley | A simple machine made up of a rope wrapped around a wheel. When a downward force is applied on the rope, an upward force is created |
| Screw | A simple machine made up of a shaft with grooves that wrap around it going from top to bottom |
| Inclined Plane | An object with a flat, tilted surface, a simple machine that helps things roll or slide upward off the ground |
| Wedge | A simple machine that can be used to split objects apart, hold objects in place, or lift objects from the ground; consists of two inclined planes joined together |
