The basic building block of many silicate rocks. Quartz
A silicate mineral that seperates easily into sheets when it breaks. Mica
Nonsilicate minerals that are composed of only one element. Native elements
Nonsilicate minerals that contain combinations of carbon and oxygen in their chemical structure. Carbonates
Nonsilicate mineral compounds that form when fluorine, chlorine, iodine, or bromide with sodium, potassium, or calcium. Halides
Nonsilicate minerals compounds that form when an element, aluminum or iron, combines chemically with oxygen. Oxides
