Chapter 10 vocab./terms

acceleration a change in an object's velocity
force a push or pull tha acts on an object
friction a force that resists motion
gravity force that causes objects with mass to attract each other
inertia resistance to a change in motion
motion a change in an object's position
newton a unit used to measure force
speed a measure of distance moved in a given amount of time
velocity a measure of both an object's speed and its direction
simple machines tools, with few or no moving parts, that make work easier
work moving an object over a distance by using force
electromagnet a magnet that is powered by electricity
