atom the smallest particle of matter the has the properties of that matter
matter anything that has mass and takes up space
molecule a single particle of matter made up of two or more atoms joined together chemically
physical property a characteristic of matter that can be measured or observed without changing matter into a new substance
states of matter the three forms that matter usually takes: solid, liquid, and gas
boiling point the temperature at which a substance changes from a liquid to a gas
chemical property the ability of a material to change its chemical makeup
conductivity the ability of a material to carry energy
density the mass per unit volume of a substance
melting point the temperautre at which a substance changes from a solid to a liquid
solubility the measure of how much of one substance can dissolve in another substance
condensation the change of state from a gas to a liquid as energy is removed
deposition the change of state from a gas to a solid
evaporation the change of state from a liquid to a gas; slow or gradual vaporization
melting the change of state from a solid to a liquid as energy is added
sublimation the change of state from a solid to a gas
thermal expansion an increase inthe size of a substance due to a change in temperature
vaporization the change of state from a liquid to a gas as energy is added
