| Term | Definition |

| Eclipse | The partial or total blocking of light of one celestial object by another. |
| Equator | An imaginary line forming a great circle around the Earth’s surface that divides Earth into northern and southern hemispheres |
| Hemisphere | Either the northern or southern half of the Earth as divided by the equator, or the eastern of western half as divided by a meridian, especially the prime meridian |
| Phases | Any of the forms, recurring in cycles, in which the moon or a planet appears in the sky. |
| Revolution | The motion of an object around a point, especially around another object or a center of mass. |
| Rotation | The motion of an object around an internal axis |
| Seasons | A period of an object around an internal axis |
| Solstice | When one hemisphere gets its maximum area of sunlight, while the other hemisphere gets its minimum amount |
| Solstice | the time of year when days are either longest or shortest, and the angle of sunlight reaches its maximum or minimum |
| Equinox | When sunlight shines equally on the Northern Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere; a time of year when daylight and darkness are nearly equal for most of Earth |
| Tides | The regular rising and falling of Earth’s surface waters twice a tidal day as a result of the Moon’s and Sun’s gravitational attraction. |
