Respiratory System Vocab

TermDefinition
Lungs Two sac-like respiratory organs in the chest.
Trachea Main airway that runs from the bottom of the throat to the lungs.
Diaphragm A flat muscle located at the bottom of your ribs.
Bronchi Two main branches of the trachea that goes into the lungs.
Lung Capacity Amount of air in the lungs after deep inhalation.
Inhalation Breathing in oxygen, moves into the lungs.
Exhalation Breathing out. Carbon Dioxide is moved out of the lungs.
Alveoli Small air sacs, site of exchange of gases.
Respiration One inhalation and one exhalation.
Bronchioles Each bronchi becomes increasingly smaller.
