| What is pathogenesis? | The development of disease that occurs in stages. |
| What is acute? | Abrupt onset of more or less severe symptoms that run a brief course (usually shorter than 6 months) and then resolve or in some cases result in death. |
| What is Chronic? | When a disease develops slowly or is intermittent and lasts longer than 6 months. |
| What is a risk factor? | Predisposing factors that make a person or group more vulnerable to disease. |
