Unit 11 Mrs.Dingee 5th grade learned behaviors and inherited traits.

TermDefinition
Learned Behavior Animal behavior that develops from observation on instruction rather than being passed down by heredity.
Instinctive Behavior An inborn pattern of behavior that is characteristics of a species and is often a response to specific environmental stimulus.
Inherited Trait A characteristic that is passed from parent to offspring during reproduction.
Trait A characteristic of an organism.
Instincts An innate, typically fixed pattern of behavior in animals in response to certain stimuli.
Behavior The way in which an animal or person acts in response to a particular situation or stimuli.
Offspring New organisms that come from parents that have reproduced.
Heredity The passing of traits from parent to offspring during reproduction.
Adaptation Any characteristic that help a plant or animal survive.
Migration To move usually periodically from one region or climate to another for feeding or breeding.
Mimicry The resemblance of an organism to another organism or to its surroundings that gives it a better chance of survival.
Camouflage The characteristics that blend in with the surrounding environment that increases chances of survival.
Hibernation A long period of inactivity that is like sleeping.
