Carrier | A person who has one recessive and one dominant allele for a trait. |
Hemophilia | A genetic disorder in which a person's blood clots very slowly. |
Inbreeding | The crossing of two individuals that have identical or similar sets of alleles. |
Genetic Engineering | The transfer of genes from one organism to another. |
Pedigree | A chart that tracks which members of a family have a particular trait. |
Genetic Disorder | An abnormal condition that a person inherits through genes or chromosomes. |
Down Syndrome | A disorder in which the person has an extra copy of chromosome 21. |
Genetic Counselor | Professionals who help couples understand their chances of having a child with a particular genetic disorder. |
Clone | An organism that is genetically identical to the organism from which it was produced. |
Multiple Alleles | Three or more forms of a gene that code for a single trait. |
Cystic Fibrosis | A genetic disorder in which the body produces abnormally thick mucus. |
Karyotype | A picture of the chromosomes in a cell. |
Genome | The entire DNA in one cell of an organism. |
DNA fingerprint | A pattern produced from fragments of the DNA of a specific organism. |
Hybridization | A technique used to cross genetically different individuals. |
