| Inbreeding | The crossing of two individuals that have identical or similar sets of alleles. |

| Pedigree | A chart that tracks which members of a family have a particular trait. |
| Genetic Disorder | An abnormal condition that a person inherits through genes or chromosomes. |
| Down Syndrome | A disorder in which the person has an extra copy of chromosome 21. |
| Genetic Counselor | Professionals who help couples understand their chances of having a child with a particular genetic disorder. |
| Clone | An organism that is genetically identical to the organism from which it was produced. |
| Multiple Alleles | Three or more forms of a gene that code for a single trait. |
| Cystic Fibrosis | A genetic disorder in which the body produces abnormally thick mucus. |
| Karyotype | A picture of the chromosomes in a cell. |
| Genome | The entire DNA in one cell of an organism. |
| DNA fingerprint | A pattern produced from fragments of the DNA of a specific organism. |
| Hybridization | A technique used to cross genetically different individuals. |
