TermDefinition
Permeable Materials that have pores that allow water to pass through.
Saturated Zone The area of permeable rock that is totally filled or saturated with water.
Impermeable Materials that do NOT have pores that allow water to pass through.
Unsaturated Zone The area that is filled with water & air, but isn't saturated.
Water Table The top of the saturated zone.
Aquifer Any underground layer of rock or sediment that holds water.
Spring Flows out of cracks in the rocks or groundwater bubbles.
Artesian Well Water rises because of pressure within an aquifer.
Geyser A type of hot spring from which the water periodically erupts.
How does water move through layers of soil and rock? Water Underground trickles down between particles of soil and through cracks and spaces in layers of rock.
How do people obtain water from an aquifer? People can obtain groundwater from an aquifer by drilling a well below the water table.
Name 3 Water zones? Saturated Zone, Unsaturated Zone, & Water Table
Name 2 things that go through the permeable layer? Air & Water.
