Mineral Properties

| Mineral | A naturally occurring, inorganic solid that has a defined chemical make-up and structure. |
| Gems | A mineral that is valuable, rare and beautiful that are often used in jewelry. |
| Ore | Any mineral that can be mined and processed for a profit. |
| Luster | Property of a mineral that shows how it reflects light |
| Hardness | Property of a mineral to be scratched by an object such as a fingernail, nail, coin or another mineral measured by Moh's Scale. |
| Color | The most unreliable property of a mineral. |
| Density | The property of a mineral that compares its mass to its volume (M/V). |
| Clevage | Property of mineral that causes it to break on a flat, smooth plane. |
| Fracture | Property of a mineral that causes it to break in uneven, jagged pieces. |
| Texture | The property of a mineral that describes how it feels when it is touched. |
| Gas production | Property of a mineral's reaction to acid dropped on the surface. |
| Streak | Property of a mineral to leave powder on a unglazed tile. |
