| Waxing | The moon appears to be growing. |
| Waning | The moon appears to be shrinking. |
| Phases | The illuminated portion that we see of the moon. |
| Moon's Orbital Tilt | The 5 degree tilt of the moon. |
| Sun | The only star in our solar system. |
| Satellite | An object that orbits around another object in space. |
| Orbit | The curved path of an object or spacecraft around a star, planet, or moon. |
| Solar Eclipse | An eclipse in which the sun is obscured by the moon |
| Lunar Eclipse | An eclipse in which the moon appears darkened as it passes into the earth's shadow. |
| 8 Phases of the Moon | New moon, waxing crescent, 1st quarter, waxing gibbous, full moon, waning gibbous, 3rd quarter, waning crescent. |
| Maria | This word means seas. |
| High Tide | The state of the tide when at its highest level because of the pull of the moon's gravity. |
| Low Tide | The state of the tide when at its lowest level because of the pull of the moon's gravity. |
| Umbra | The darkest part of the moon's shadow. |
| Penumbra | The larger part of a shadow, less dark than the umbra. |
| Neap Tide | Tide that occurs when the sun is at a right angle to the Earth and moon. |
