Photosynthesis

TermDefinition
Chlorophyll A chemical (pigment) in chloroplasts that can absorb or trap light energy (sunlight).
Chloroplast An organelle in cells that carries out the process of photosynthesis.
Photosynthesis A cell process that transforms light energy (from the sun) into chemical energy (in the bonds of glucose molecules)
Glucose The sugar molecule produced by photosynthesis.
Cellular Respiration The cell process that releases the energy stored in the chemical bonds of glucose for use in life processes.
Mitochondrion The organelle found in the cells of nearly all Eukaryotes (Animals, Plants, Protista, and Fungi) which is the site of cellular respiration.
Producers Photosynthesizing organisms that obtain their energy from the sun and convert it to glucose
