| Chlorophyll | A chemical (pigment) in chloroplasts that can absorb or trap light energy (sunlight). |
| Chloroplast | An organelle in cells that carries out the process of photosynthesis. |
| Photosynthesis | A cell process that transforms light energy (from the sun) into chemical energy (in the bonds of glucose molecules) |
| Glucose | The sugar molecule produced by photosynthesis. |
| Cellular Respiration | The cell process that releases the energy stored in the chemical bonds of glucose for use in life processes. |
| Mitochondrion | The organelle found in the cells of nearly all Eukaryotes (Animals, Plants, Protista, and Fungi) which is the site of cellular respiration. |
| Producers | Photosynthesizing organisms that obtain their energy from the sun and convert it to glucose |
