Also known as Regional Metamorphism. Affects large areas of the earth's crust and produces great pressure and sometimes heat that changes existing rock. Dynamic Metamorphism
Also known as Thermal Metamorphism. Affects small areas of the earth's crust. Existing rocks are changed due to substantial temperature increases. Ex. Hornfels has low porosity and is very dense. Contact Metamorphism
New layering that developes in metamorphic rocks. Individual layers are composed of only one mineral type. Ex. Gneiss Foliation
Foliation where individual layers contain different minerals. Ex. Schist Schistosity
Limestone is changed to ________. Marble
Sandstone is changed to ________. Quartzite
Conglomerates change to ________. Gneiss
Granite is changed to __________. Gneiss
