QuestionAnswer
Troposphere lower layers of the earth’s atmosphere
Stratosphere upper layers of the earth’s atmosphere, contains the ozone layer
Trace Gases the gases in the earth’s atmosphere other than nitrogen and oxygen, they make up only one percent of the atmosphere
Greenhouse Gases allow light to pass through them readily, but they trap heat close to the ground thus increasing the temperatures in the troposphere
Acid Rain damaging rain that results from sulfur oxides from burning fossil fuels combining with water vapor to form sulfuric acid in the rain clouds
pH Scale scale of relative acidity with 0 being the most acidic and 14 being most basic
Thermal Inversion when rising warm air traps denser cool air beneath it, it creates air pollution problems in urban areas where natural barriers prevent the denser polluted air from escaping
Ozone Shield layer of ozone in the stratosphere that protects the earth from harmful solar radiation
Eutropication excessive plant growth
Biological Magnification process in which the concentration of certain elements increases at each level of the food chain
