TermDefinition
nutrients Materials used by living things for growth and for other life functions.
producers Living things that make their own food. (plants)
consumers Living things that eat other living things.
energy The ability to do work.
photosynthesis The process in which producers make their own food using the sun's energy, water and carbon dioxide.
decomposers Living things that get energy by breaking down wastes and dead pant and animal matter.
food chain The transfer of food energy in a sequence of living things.
carnivore A consumer that eats other animals.
food web The relationships among different food chains.
herbivore A consumer that eats only plants.
omnivore A consumer that eats both plants and animals.
predator An animal that hunts other animals.
prey An animal that is hunted and eaten.
