Digestive, Circulatory, and Nervous Systems week 7 and 8

digestive system The body system that breaks down food into tiny pieces so that the body’s cells can use it for energy.
esophagus A muscular tube that helps move food from the mouth to the stomach.
intestine An organ of the digestive system that removes nutrients and water from digested food :The intestine is made up of two parts: the small intestine and the large intestine.
nutrients A substance such as a fat, a protein, or a carbohydrate that a living thing needs to survive.
mouth Part of the digestive system that takes food into the body.
stomach A muscular organ in the body where chemical and mechanical digestion take place.
saliva A fluid in the mouth that helps digest food.
digestion The process by which the body breaks down food so that it can be used for energy.
anus The opening at the end of the digestive track where feces exit the body.
absorb To take in matter or energy.
circulatory system The system that transports blood and other fluids throughout the body.
heart The muscular organ of an animal that pumps blood throughout the body.
ventricle A chamber in an animal’s heart that pumps blood out to the body.
brain The main control center in an animal body; part of the central nervous system.
nervous system The system of the body that carries information to all parts of the body.
spinal cord A bundle of nerves that runs along the back of a vertebrate within the spinal column
cerebellum The part of the brain that controls balance, coordination, and unconscious muscle activities
cerebrum The part of the brain that controls conscious thoughts, senses, language and memories.
