Science: Chemical building Blocks

| Matter | anything that has mass and takes up space |
| Chemistry | the study of the properties of matter and how matter changes |
| Substance | a single kind of matter that is pure, meaning it always have a specific composition |
| Physical property | a characteristic of a pure substance that can be observed without changing it to another substance |
| Chemical property | a characteristic of a pure substance that describes his ability to change into another substance |
| element | a pure substance that cannot be broken down into any other substances by chemical or physical means |
| Chemical bond | a force or attraction between two atoms |
| molecule | groups of two or more atoms held together by chemical bonds |
| atom | the basic particle in which all elements are made |
| compound | a pure substance made of two or more elements chemically combined in a set of ratios |
| Chemical formula | shows the elements in the compound and the ratio of atoms |
| mixture | made of two or more substances that are together in the same place but are not chemically combined |
| Heterogeneous mixture | a mixture in which pure substances are unevenly distributed throughout the mixture |
| Homogeneous mixture | A mixture in which substances are evenly distributed throughout the mixture |
| solution | An example of a homogeneous mixture; forms when substances dissolve |
