Science: Chemical building Blocks

Matter anything that has mass and takes up space
Chemistry the study of the properties of matter and how matter changes
Substance a single kind of matter that is pure, meaning it always have a specific composition
Physical property a characteristic of a pure substance that can be observed without changing it to another substance
Chemical property a characteristic of a pure substance that describes his ability to change into another substance
element a pure substance that cannot be broken down into any other substances by chemical or physical means
Chemical bond a force or attraction between two atoms
molecule groups of two or more atoms held together by chemical bonds
atom the basic particle in which all elements are made
compound a pure substance made of two or more elements chemically combined in a set of ratios
Chemical formula shows the elements in the compound and the ratio of atoms
mixture made of two or more substances that are together in the same place but are not chemically combined
Heterogeneous mixture a mixture in which pure substances are unevenly distributed throughout the mixture
Homogeneous mixture A mixture in which substances are evenly distributed throughout the mixture
solution An example of a homogeneous mixture; forms when substances dissolve
