What is the drug of choice for ADHD & Narcolepsy? Ritalin (methylphenidate)
What class of drug is Ritalin? Class II
What are nursing considerations for Ritalin? at least 6 hours prior to bedtime. 45 Minutes before meals. May cause dry mouth. Parents should keep a journal to document response to therapy.
What classification of depressants are there? Sedatives, Hypnotics, Anxiolytics.
What different sedative/hypnotics are there? Barbiturates, Benzodiazepines
What classifications are there for barbiturates? Ultrashort, short, Intermediate, & Long
What is a ultrashort barbiturates? Pentothal
What is a short acting? Nembutal
What is an Intermediate acting? Seconal
What is a long acting? Luminal
What are Benzodiazepines? Drug of choice for insomnia. They are hypnotics & Anxiolitics (Relieve stress)
Common benzodiazepines? Valium, Klonopin, Ativan, Dalmane
