| wind formation | The earth is affected by unequal heating from the sun. This causes warm air to expand and rise up while cold air condenses and sink which makes wind. |
| prevailing winds | Winds that blow from a single direction over a particular point on the Earth's surface. |
| westerlies | Very high winds in the middle latitudes between 35 and 65 degrees latitude.Found 20,000 - 30,000 feet above. |
| jet stream | Strong, high level wind that can reach speeds in excess of 20 mph usually occurring 6 - 9 miles above ground. They often steer the movement of surface air masses and weather systems. |
