TermDefinition
air pressure Weight of air pressing down on earth. Changes from place to place causing air to move from high pressure areas to low pressure areas. Same as barometric pressure.
high pressure system Whirling mass of cool, dry air that brings fair weather and light winds. Winds spiral our a high pressure center in a clockwise rotation in the Northern Hemisphere bringing sunny skies.
low pressure system Whirling mass of warm, moist air that brings stormy weather and strong winds. Winds spiral into a low pressure center in a counterclockwise rotation in the Northern Hemisphere.
isobars A line connecting equal points of pressure.
