Endocrine gland and regulation of blood glucose

What does the hormone GH do? Regulates growth
What does Oestrogen do? Female body development/Repairs uterine lining
What does Progesterone do? Maintains uterine lining
What does Thyroxine do? Raises metabolism
What does adrenaline do? Flight or fight survival mechanism
Where is the pancreas located? Behind the liver and the stomach and connected to the small intestine.
What is meant by exocrine function? Able to secrete substances (digestive enzymes) through a duct
What is meant by endocrine function? Able to secrete hormones directly into the blood stream
What enzymes does the pancreas release? Amylase, lipase and Trypsinogen
How do these enzymes get into the small intestine? Through the pancreatic duct
Why is the pancreatic juice alkaline? Enzymes like to be in alkaline
What is the endocrine tissue made up of alpha and beta cells? Islet of Langerhans
What is secreted from the alpha and beta cells? Glucagon and Insulin
Where is Glucogen stored? Liver and muscles
What does the liver convert glucose into? Glucogen
What does the liver convert glycogen into? Glucose
Where is insulin produced? Beta cells
Where is glucagon produced? Alpha cells
What are the name of the liver cells\/ Hepatocytes
