| GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT | organisms assimilate materials from their environment and exhibit increased size and specialization in regards to form and function. |
| RESPONSIVENESS | all organisms exhibit the ability to sense an react to stimuli. |
| REGULATION | an organism must be able to adjust or direct internal bodily function in the face of environmental changes. |
| REPRODUCTION | all organisms produce cells for growth, maintenance, and repair. |
